U.S. Sees Faster than Average Job Growth for Heavy Equipment Operators
The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that the employment of heavy equipment operators will grow by 12% from 2016 to 2026.* This growth is due in large part to the need for construction and infrastructure work across the country.
There are a number of bridges, roads and utility systems that need repair and maintenance. Skilled operators will be needed to assist on these jobs and other infrastructure related work. The demand for operators may vary from state to state as some areas experience booming economies and growing populations. Trained operators “with the ability to operate multiple types of equipment should have the best job opportunities.”* Training and experience are some of the best ways to become a competitive applicant to fill these positions.

Programs Offered
We are proud to provide our students with a variety of options to help them obtain a quality education close to home. Each location strives to prepare our students for long-term careers in heavy equipment and crane operations. As a result, we offer a variety of programs designed to help them develop the necessary skill sets and obtain the knowledge that will help them to succeed. The following programs are offered as part of our curriculum and vary by location:
- Certificate of Heavy Equipment Operations – Level I: In this course, you learn the basics about what it means to work as a heavy equipment operator. It is, in other words, an important course that will provide you with a solid foundation upon which you can build your career.
- Certificate of Heavy Equipment Operations – Level II. This is a course designed to take the foundation of your education from Certificate of Heavy Equipment Operations – Level 1 and build upon it. It explores more advanced skills and details related to heavy equipment.
- Certificate of Heavy Equipment Operations – Mobile Crane. This course is designed to give you both practical experience and classroom interaction when it comes to the fundamentals of crane operation. This includes both swing cab and fixed-cab hydraulic cranes, and includes learning about things like crane set-up, lift planning, rigging and signaling, and load dynamics. Mobile Crane is a prerequisite for the next program: certificate of Heavy Equipment Operations – Lattice Boom Crawler Crane.
- Certificate of Heavy Equipment Operations – Lattice Boom Crawler Crane. After completing Certificate of Heavy Equipment Operations – Mobile Crane, you can take on this course. You will learn the fundamentals of operating a Lattice Boom Crawler Crane; this includes, crane set-up, lift planning, load dynamics, rigging, and signaling.
Availability of programs varies by campus.
Locations
North Carolina: Located in Fayetteville, this location was founded in August of 2006. This facility was created to help provide students in the area with a first-rate education focused upon heavy equipment and crane operations. Their skilled instructors are happy to provide students with the skills necessary to succeed in this growing field.
Georgia: Located in Conyers and founded in August of 2006, our Georgia location has been helping students excel in various skilled trades for over a decade. This location is proud to offer different programs targeted to help individuals pick up the kind of entry-level skills they need to find a job in this in-demand field.
Tennessee: Located in Clarksville and founded to help provide a solid education to students in search of a job in the heavy equipment and crane operations industry, this location provides a variety of career training programs. This location is a training facility to help those in search of a skilled trade career in heavy equipment and crane operations.
Oklahoma: Located in Oklahoma City and founded in August of 2006, this location serves students in the area with a first-class educational facility designed to help them thrive. They believe that skilled trades, particularly those in the heavy equipment and crane operations are an important part of the future, and work hard to create a learning environment specifically designed to help students succeed.
California – San Bernardino: Located in San Bernardino, this location aims to serve students interested in learning more about the heavy equipment and crane operations industry. This location is proud to offer different programs targeted to help individuals pick up the kind of entry-level skills they need to find a job in this in-demand field.
California – Ft. Irwin (*CSP only): Located in Ft. Irwin, this location serves active duty military members. HEC is proud to be approved for VA education. Helping military members transition and to have the ability to land an entry level job in the heavy equipment industry.
Washington (*CSP only): Founded in Lakewood, our location in Washington is proud to offer a mobile crane training program to veterans through the Army’s Career Skills Program. This location is an approved testing site by the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO).
