START YOUR HEAVY EQUIPMENT TRAINING

HEC Locations

For those looking for a job outside the norms of a 9 to 5, switching careers, or veterans transitioning to civilian life, HEC has provided training that specializes in preparing students for careers in skilled trades.

Established in 2006 with the goal to help students succeed, HEC offers programs across the country that prepare students for careers in heavy equipment and crane operation.

Programs Offered at HEC

The various programs at HEC provide a foundation for students to add more advanced skills and education. These programs blend practical and textbook knowledge with instructors who strive to help students reach their potential.

  1. Certificate of Heavy Equipment Operations – Level I
    This program covers the basics of heavy equipment operation. It offers the foundation for all other courses to follow, and what careers are built upon. The objectives of Level 1 are to provide the fundamental skills and knowledge applicable to wheel loader, backhoe, and skid steer. To prepare the student for employment in the excavation industry as an entry level operator.
  2. Certificate of Heavy Equipment Operations – Level II
    Level II builds upon the foundation provided in Level I, while also exploring more advanced heavy equipment operation skills. Once students complete this course and Level I, they are qualified to take the Adaptable Equipment Proficiency Testing (ADEPT) exam, a nationally recognized heavy equipment operations certification that is valued by employers. The objective of this program is to provide the advanced skills and knowledge applicable to wheel loader, loader/backhoe, bulldozer, skid steer and excavator operating and to obtain employment in the excavation industry as an entry-level operator.
  3. Certificate of Heavy Equipment Operations – Mobile Crane
    In this course, students discover the fundamentals of crane operations by combining practical experience with textbook knowledge. Topics range from various cabs like swing or fixed-cab hydraulic cranes to crane setup and load dynamics.
  4. Certificate of Heavy Equipment Operations – Lattice Boom Crawler Crane
    This in-depth course covers the fundamentals of operating lattice boom crawler cranes. Topics covered include crane setup, lift planning, load dynamics, rigging, and signaling. The objective of this program is to provide the fundamental skills and knowledge applicable to lattice boom crawler crane operation and to obtain employment in the field as a lattice boom crawler crane
    operator.
    Pre-requisites required: Certificate of Heavy Equipment Operations – Mobile Crane
  5. Associate of Occupational Science in Heavy Equipment (AOS)
    In this course, students will learn how to land a job in heavy equipment operation, in addition to how to keep one. The AOS program is taught in a hybrid format both online and in-person.
